What Is Play Therapy?

Play Therapy

Play therapy is a systematic use of theoretical models used by qualified clinicians to enter into the world of a child and explore their inner thoughts and feelings.  Our Play Room is equipped with over 6,000+ miniature Sandtray figurines, interactive games, art, crafts, puppets, books, and a huge assortment of toys to use as a primary communication tool when meeting child clients.  As I play with a child, I to enter into their world and communicate with them through interactive, non-directive imaginative play.

“Play to a child is like a fish to water”   (author unknown)

“Therapeutic Play” is a very specialized practice.  Using play therapy interventions, I will enter your child’s world and assess their real life beliefs and struggles.  I will join in your child’s creative play as they share their hurts, feelings, and relationship difficulties.  The toys in my office are my tools to help the child share their struggles as toys are the most natural method to interact with a child.  Talk therapy works well with adults and most teenagers, but Play Therapy is the recommended practice for children as young as 24 months (using Theraplay Techniques) as it is developmentally appropriate and tailored to meet their communication needs.
